AVTT WALL
2014 Salute To American Veterans Rally donation

The following note was sent to us by Tina Smith. Tina's husband Chris is terminally ill and their VA Benefits were stalled in Government red tape back in late 2014.
Meanwhile, they were having trouble making ends meet on basic needs like groceries.

The Smith's received a $1,000 donation from the Vets Rally Committee via a request from American Military Family.

Chris & Tina Smith

Dear Jim / Veterans Rally Committee members,

I want you to know how truly grateful we are for the very generous donation. Yours was the first received. We were so surprised and just bewildered by your generosity. I can’t tell you how much this truly helped. Chris is doing okay. He is stable right now however, we still have an expectancy of March. We are just taking one day at a time. Please let me know if there is anything I could do to help another veteran. Thank you again for all that you’ve done for us. I have enclosed a picture from December. It was taken at our vow renewal that my daughter planned for us.

Again, I am sorry for the delay in getting this to you. We will forever be grateful for all that you have done.

Much love to you all,

Chris & Tina Smith

Jim Wear, founder and organizer of the annual event had this to say: “We do this every year. There are a LOT of Vets in need and we try and help as many as we can. We don’t make a big deal out of it and it’s not really the “Mission” of the Rally to raise money… But we do what we can – when we can.” Wear added, “It’s only right.”

Jim: I thought you would want to know that Chris "Smitty" Smith passed away tonight (4/5/2015) - Below please find the announcement from his wife Tina. Sincere thanks to you and The Salute the Vets Rally for your very generous support of this great Warrior. Deep respect my friend.....

"Good evening to all of you….....I want to first tell all of you thank you for your continued support and prayers over these past months we would not have made it through this without each and every one of you. Some were strangers and some we have known since childhood but none the less you all have shown us so much courage and love and for that I am so very grateful.

This evening Chris left us to be with our great and almighty Lord. He is at peace and is now no longer in pain. I spent the last moments with him eyes locked and in those final moments he looked at me and told me I was beautiful; and in that moment he then looked above me and smiled as if a child again and then he was gone….in my heart I know he saw God and I know he was there hand outstretched waiting to take him home where his mother is waiting. What a truly beautiful gift for our lord to bring him home on such a blessed day. He is home now…
I will forever miss my husband and my best friend………Tina"
